Essay No 21

My Aim in Life/My Idea of Life

Life without aim is nothing. It is like a body without soul, a flower without smell, a river without water and a tree without shade. There are as many aims in life as men. Some of the persons want to be a doctor, engineer, chemist, singer, lawyer, or an architect etc.

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die,

life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.”

As for myself, my aim is superb of all these. I want to ornament not only this world but also the next one. I want to follow the true teachings of Islam. Aim of a person is clearly described in the Holy Quran by Allah Almighty. As Allah Says,

“You are the Best Ummah (People) sent for the welfare of humanity.

You order for piety and forbade from sins.

And have faith in Allah Almighty.”

I do not have very ambitious aims in my life. I do not wish to become a miller-owner or a multi-millionaire. The sole object of my life is to lead a life of simplicity and goodness devoted to the service of humanity. The life of a professional leader or a politician does not interest me.

“Politics is too serious matter to be left for politicians.”

I want to be a teacher. I know Allah awarded the best to His best men. In this world, all of the preachers were prophets (A.S), Sahabas (R.A) and saints. A teacher is always a good preacher. Teaching is the profession of prophets.

As, our last prophet, the Holy Prophet () said,

“I have been sent as a teacher.”

I am born in a middle class family. From the very beginning, I have been passing through the struggles of life. I have seen cut throat competition in most of the professions. Its consequences have been far-reaching that the people are demoralized. As, it is rightly said,

“I cannot teach anybody anything;

I can only make them think and be moralized.”

There are many examples in which we find that engineers are accepting big bribery. Lawyers also make black money by rescuing criminals and guilty persons. Doctors demand money from the patients at the crucial stage of surgical operation. But some-one has wisely said,

Black money is so much a part of our white economy,

Try to remove it other-wise, you will kill the patient.”

Then what do I want to be? Indeed, from the core of my heart, I wish to become a teacher. The motto of this life is simple living and high thinking which inspires me to take up this profession. The noble ideals of the teachers in the ancient times are before me. I am fully aware of the difficult and hard life of a teacher. As, it is rightly said,

“Education is not the filling of a pot,

but the lighting of a fire.”

In-spite of these hardships, I do not hesitate to become a teacher. I have my own reasons and considerations for this. From my early childhood, I have developed a love for the young children.

To me, they are delicate and beautiful like the petals of a flower. I feel that as a teacher, I can help the students in widening their outlook by giving them knowledge. As, it is rightly said,

“A good teacher can inspire hope, set fire to the imagination,

and instill a love of learning.”

I will have the satisfaction of doing an invaluable service to the country by producing better citizens. Moreover, the company of the young children can even help me in remaining young and fresh in thoughts and outlook. Besides, rendering all these important services, I will also have the means of survival. As a teacher, you can give yourself the opportunity to learn from your class in new and unexpected ways each day. I have a great faith in the life of a noble and ideal teacher, because

“Teachers are the custodians of the highest value.”
