10 th English A, Unit 5 Summary for Normal Students Summary of “The Rain” W.H. Davies is an English poet who was born in 1871. He left school at a young period, and lived for a number of years as a peddler (supplier) and a beggar in USA. His first effort of poetry “The Soul’s Destroyer” was printed at his own expense in 1905 . Nature and the hardships of the poor are his favourite themes. This poem also expresses his clear and lovely views about nature and social discriminations. He very beautifully describes the natural phenomena of rain. As it is rightly said, “The best thing one can do is when it’s raining, let it rain”. He says that he hears raindrops falling on leaves of trees. He feels as if leaves are drinking raindrops.
