The Feed

Q. 1. What is the mother sparrow holding in her beak? (GWB. 2009)

Ans. The mother sparrow is holding a grain of millet in her beak.

Q. 1. What is the condition of young ones?

Ans. They are so tiny and small and they have no feathers.

Q. 3. What is the number and size of the sparrow's young one's? (L. B. 2008)

Ans. There are ten young sparrows in the nest that are so tiny and small.

Q. 4. What is the theme of the poem? (L. B. 2009, GWB. 2011)

Ans. It is a symbolic poem. The poet describes that we not only need sufficient necessities of life but also the motherly love to distribute them.

Q. 5. What is the problem of the mother sparrow?

Ans. She has only one grain to feed the ten young ones. She requires careful management.

Q. 6. Why does the poet cite (quote) “fissuring the atom”?

Ans. The poet criticizes human beings that they have invented destructive weapons for massive killing by breaking the atom. It should be used for constructive purposes.

Q. 7. What is the question asked by the poet in "The Feed'?

Ans. The poet asks human beings if they could break the grain (atom) for constructive purpose. Could they be able to learn the importance of careful management like a sparrow?

Q. 8. What is the moral lesson of the poem?

Ans. The poet creates a resemblance between the splitting of grain and fissuring of an atom. The breaking of grain is life-giving but the breaking of atom is disastrous. If atom is broken for constructive purposes, it can also be life-giving.
