A World Without Books

English Paragraph No 1

An Irish novelist Colm Toibin once recounted a story about observing a Cantonese man sitting on a Kowloon footpath reading a book. The man's face was stern with concentration, and his finger tracing the line being read. At times, the man's expression would be disturbed in concentration at his progress. Finally, the reader looked up at the sky, while his face was beaming. It doesn’t matter whether it was because of a sudden joy with the act of reading, or revelation from what was written, or delight at how the story resolved. The point is that he was in possession of something deliciously private a connection between him and the writer, between the real world and the world described upon the pages.

Urdu Translation

1۔           ایک دفعہ ، آئرلینڈ کے ناول نگار "کام تائبن"  نے کاؤ لون کے فٹ پاتھ پر بیٹھے ہوئے ایک کتاب پڑھنے والے چینی باشندے کے مشاہدے کی  کہانی بیان کی۔  اس آدمی کا چہرہ توجہ کی وجہ سے سخت تھا  اور اس کی انگلی پڑھی جانے والی  سطر کے ساتھ ساتھ  چل رہی تھی۔ اس وقت، آدمی کے تاثرات  مطالعہ میں آگے بڑھنے  کے ساتھ مایوسی کی وجہ سے بے چین ہو گئے  تھے۔ آخر کار، قاری نے اوپر  آسمان کی طرف دیکھا،  جبکہ اس کا چہرہ چمک رہا تھا۔اس کا مطلب یہ نہیں  آیاکہ ایسا  پڑھنے کے عمل کے دوران اچانک آنے  والی خوشی کی وجہ سے یا لکھی ہوئی تحریر کے ظاہر ہونے کی وجہ سے  یا  کہانی کیسے اختتام پذیر ہوئی کی خوشی کی  وجہ سے تھا۔ یہاں پر نقطہ یہ ہے کہ وہ لذیز قسم کی ذاتی کوئی چیز ملکیت رکھتا تھا، جو اس کے اور مصنف کے درمیان، حقیقی  دنیااور صفحات پر بیان کی گئی دنیا کے درمیان ایک  تعلق  تھا۔

English Paragraph No 2

There is a frequently asked a question. What would the world be like without books? The very question is absurd and depressing. It is always said that the latest technology signals the demise of the book. Decades ago, it was thought that the radio would replace books. The fear has persisted throughout with the inventions of television and internet. But scenes like that of Cantonese man reading the book negate the notion that modern advances pose a threat to reading. Books are themselves a form of technology that is spread over the pages and makes us delve into the complexities of life.

2۔           یہ سوال  کثرت سے  پوچھا جاتا ہے کہ کتابوں کے بغیر دنیاکیسی ہو گی؟ یہ سوال انتہائی   فضول اور پریشان کن ہے۔  یہ ہمیشہ کہا جاتا ہے کہ جدید  ٹیکنا لوجی کتاب کے زوال کا اشارہ دیتی ہے۔  چند عشرے پہلے،   یہ خیال کیا جاتا تھا کہ ریڈیو کتابوں کی جگہ لے لے گا۔  یہ خوف ٹیلی ویثرن اور انٹرنیٹ کی ایجادات کے ساتھ بھی موجود رہا ہے۔ مگر چینی باشندے  کے کتاب پڑھنے جیسے مناظر،  اس نظرئیے کی نفی کرتے ہیں کہ جدید ایجادات مطالعہ کے لئے   خطرہ ہیں۔ کتابیں خود  ٹیکنا لوجی کی قسم  ہیں، جو  صفحات پر پھیلی ہوئی ہیں اور  ہمیں زندگی کی پیچیدگیوں میں غوطہ زن ہونے کے  لئے  تیار کر تی ہیں۔

English Paragraph No 3

          Literature is the story of humans. It is the record of who we are, where we come from and where we are going. Books make us travel at large. During our journey, we are connected with humanity. We identify ourselves with the characters we meet and learn whether we love, loathe, fear or flatter. They help us comprehend our faults and aspirations. They tell us who could we become if we are not careful. Reading provides the deepest connection to the morals that make us human, and part of a larger society.

Urdu Translation

3۔           ادب انسانوں کی کہانی  ہے۔ یہ ایک دستاویز ہے کہ ہم کون ہیں، ہم کہاں سے آئے ہیں،اور ہم کہاں جارہے ہیں۔ کتابیں ہمیں لمبا سفر طے  کرنے کے لئے تیار کرتی ہیں۔  اپنے سفر کے دوران ، ہمارا انسانیت سے تعلق قائم ہوتا ہے۔ ہم ان کرداروں سے جن سے ہم ملتے ہیں،  اپنی شناخت کرتے ہیں اور سیکھتے ہیں آیاکہ ہم پیار کرتے،  نفرت کرتے، خوفزدہ  ہیں یا خوشامدی ہیں۔ وہ  ہماری خطاؤں  اور تمناؤں کو سمجھنے میں ہماری  مدد کرتے ہیں۔وہ ہمیں بتاتے ہیں کہ اگر ہم محتاط نہ ہوئے  تو  ہم کیا بن جائیں گے۔  مطالعہ ہمارا اخلاقیات سے  گہرا تعلق قائم کرتاہے، جو ہمیں انسان اور ایک بہت بڑے معاشرے کا حصہ بناتی ہے۔

English Paragraph No 4

Books are a source of comfort for us. They are a safe shelter. Throughout human history man has found peace in the written works. Books are bridges. Through their pages we make our contact with society. Those who read more are better prepared to face the world than those who don't read.

Urdu Translation

4۔           کتابیں ہمارے لیے سکون  کاذریعہ ہیں۔ یہ محفوظ پناہ گاہیں ہیں۔  تمام انسانی تاریخ میں انسان نے تحریری کام میں سکون  پایا  ہے۔  کتابیں پل ہیں، ان کے صفحات کے ذریعے ہمارا  معاشرے سے تعلق قائم ہوتا ہے۔  وہ لوگ جو زیادہ پڑھتے ہیں،وہ دنیا کا زیادہ بہتر طور پر سامنا کرنے کے لیے تیار ہوتے ہیں،    با  نسبت ان کے  جو  پڑھتے نہیں  ہیں۔

English Paragraph No 5

Though reading a book connects us with humanity, it is also the last truly private act in a world that has become too public. As nourishment for the mind, it is slow food in a world given over to fast food. Blogs, text messages and e-books bring relevance and instant gratification, much as newspapers and magazines do. But however, important such forms are, they endure only as long as the stuff they are printed on. The comforts of books defy time, and break borders.

5۔           اگر چہ،  ایک کتاب کا مطالعہ ہمارا انسانیت سے تعلق  قائم کرتا ہے،  یہ اس دنیامیں، حقیقی طور پرآخری ذاتی  عمل ہے،  جو بہت زیادہ  عوامی ہو گئی  ہے۔  ذہن کی غذا کی حیثیت سے،  یہ اس  دنیا میں جلد پک جانے والے کھانے کے طور پر  دی جانے والی  آہستہ خوراک  ہے۔ ویب سائٹس، تحریری پیغامات اور برقی کتابیں ،  ایسے ہی  تعلق قائم کرتی  اور فوری اطمینان لاتی  ہیں، جیسے اخبارات اوررسالے کرتے ہیں۔   لیکن  اہم چیز یہ ہے کہ  وہ اس  وقت قائم رہتی ہیں،  جب تک  وہ مواد قائم رہتا ہے۔  کتابوں کا سکون  وقت  گزاری دیتا ہے اور  تمام  حدود  توڑ دیتا ہے۔

Books offer other types of pleasures as well. The joy of their touch, sound and fragrance is immeasurable. The pleasure of their understanding is an addition to it. The sharing of a book with friends is still another form of joy. Libraries are the evidence of grandeur of a civilization.

Urdu Translation

                کتابیں دوسری قسم کی خوشیاں  بھی مہیا کرتی ہیں۔  انہیں  چھونے کی خوشی،ان کی آواز اور خوشبو کی خوشی  ناقابل پیمائش ہے۔ انہیں سمجھنے کی خوشی،  اس میں مزید اضافہ ہے۔   دوستوں کے ساتھ کتاب کا تبادلہ خو شی کی  ایک اور  قسم ہے۔ کتب خانے  کسی تہذیب کی عظمت کا ثبوت ہوتے ہیں۔

English Paragraph No 6

It is important that we work to give every person the opportunity to enjoy books as shelters, sustenance and roads forward. To imagine a world without books is to imagine a world without thought, feeling, compassion, history, or voice.

Urdu Translation

6۔           یہ اہم ہے کہ ہم ہر ایک کو کتابوں سے پناہ گاہ،  غذا اور  آگے بڑھنے کے راستے  طور پر لطف اندوز ہو نے کے لئے موقع فراہم کرنے کے لئے  کام کرتے ہیں۔کتابوں کے بغیرکسی  دنیا کا تصور کرنا،   خیال،    جذبے، ہمدردی ،    تاریخ  یا  آواز کے بغیر کسی دنیا کا تصور کرنے کے مترادف ہے۔
