O Where are You Going?

Q. 1. What kind of feeling does the poet create in the mind of reader?

Ans. The poet makes the reader think about the challenges of life in this world. The readers feel that if they want to achieve their goal, they will have to be brave and courageous. They should not be discouraged by the working of opposite forces.

Q. 2. What do you feel after reading the poem?

Ans. We feel that the way to glory and success is quite uncertain. We have to face a lot of hardships and troubles during the course of our journey. If we do not pay heed to the call of negative forces and keep on moving audaciously only then we can be successful. We feel that we should face the challenges of life boldly.

Q. 3. What does the title of poem signify?

Ans. The title of the poem is question asked by those forces which check our course of life. They warn us against the unseen dangers, we may face in due course of life. The title also suggests that we should plan our lives in a certain direction and move through this life courageously despite uncountable impediments.

Q. 4. Write down the rhyming words in the poem?

Ans. The rhyming words are, burn, return, pass, grass, trees, disease, fearer, hearer.

Q. 5. Explain the third stanza of the poem in your own words.

Ans. The difficulties of life sometimes affect our lives so badly that we become dejected hopeless. These horrible forces frighten us in many ways. Sometimes, they acquire the shape of a bird or attack in the form of hallucinations.

Ans. The fearer asks the farer if he imagines that the dusk will delay on his path to pass.

Ans. The horror frightens the hearer from different shapes of birds in the trees. He frightens him from the spot on skin by saying that it is a shocking disease.

Q. 13. What does the rider reply? (GWB. 2009)

Ans. The rider orders the reader to get out of the house.

Q. 14. What does the farer say to fearer?

Ans. The fearer tells the farer that his wish will never come true.

Q. 15. What is the hearer's reply to horror?

Ans. The hearer says to horror that all the difficulties are in search of the horror. He should face them all.

Q. 16. What does the hearer do at last?

Ans. He gets rid of all fears and moves away.

Q. 17. What is the theme of the poem?

Ans. The poem describes that the way to success is vague and full of dangers, but it can be passed with courage and determination.
