Leisure

Q. 1. What do you understand by “Life full of care”?

Ans. The poet talks about a life which is full of worries and we have no time to enjoy the ordinary pleasures in it.

Q. 2. Why does the poet refer sheep and cows in the poem, “Leisure”?

Ans. The poet says that we don't have much time to see sheep or cows grazing in the pastures. We do not have much time to enjoy the beautiful objects of nature.

Q. 3. What do we not see in broad daylight?

Ans. We don't have time to observe and enjoy the glittering water of the stream. The water is as bright as the sky shines at night due to twinkling stars.

Q. 4. What is the personification used by the poet in “Leisure”?

Ans. The poet personifies beauty. As a poet and artist, he justifies his viewpoint that modern man has no time to have a glance on beautiful objects of nature.

Q. 5. What do you understand by Beauty's dance?

Ans. Beauty's dance resembles chirping and movements of birds, blowing of soft breeze, swaying of leaves and flowing of rocky streams.

Q. 6. What does the poet lament in “Leisure”?

Ans. The poet laments the hurried life of modern man who doesn't have any time to enjoy the wonders of nature around us.

Ans. The poet laments the fact that modern man has become so busy in his mechanical life that he ignores the simplest beauties of nature and joys of life.

Q. 8. Bring out the main idea of the poem “Leisure”. (L.B. 2006, 10)

Ans. The poet expresses his disgust and disliking for the hurried life of the modern man. We have no time to enjoy and look at the wonders of nature around us. We are gradually losing charms in our lives. The poet urges upon us that we should spare some of our time to enjoy the various delights and pleasures around us. This is the only way we can get rid of cares and worries of life.

Q. 9. When does the life of a man become poor? (L.B. 2015)

Ans. The poet says that modern man has made himself so busy in his work that he does not have spare any time to enjoy the beautiful nature around him. His life is full of hurries and worries. He calls it a poor and miserable life because we do not realize the importance of leisure in our lives.
