Heat Lightning

Q. 1. Why couldn’t the girl describe the killer? (L.B. 2009, 10, RWP 2009, GWB 2009, 11)

Ans. The girl couldn’t describe the killer because it was dark and the girl could not see the killer clearly. She could only have a glance of him in the lightning because she was very confused and scared.

Q. 2. What were the circumstances that forced her to leave her car? (L.B. 2009, 11, 14, 15)  (RWP 2009)

Ans. She ran out of gas, therefore she had to leave her car, so she took her flashlight and locked the car and started walking.

Q. 3. Why did she ask for help from the first man?

Ans. She asked First Man to help her because somebody was chasing her. She thought that the first man could save her as he was the only person there who could help her.

Q. 4. What was the condition of the weather?

Ans. The weather was unfavourable. It was raining heavily with rain thunder and lightning.

Q. 5. How did the Second Man accuse First Man of lying?

Ans. The First Man pushed the girl in women’s room and denied the presence of anybody else in the room. The Second Man had already seen somebody so he accused First Man of lying.

Q. 6. Does the girl become suspicious of First Man as the play progresses?

Ans. The girl does not become suspicious of the First Man at all. She has rather trust in him because she prefers to stay with him.

Q. 7. What is her impression about the Second Man?

Ans. She assumed that the Second man was the person who was chasing her.

Ans. She thought that the Second man might be the killer so she refused to go with him.

Ans. Storm, rain, lightning and thunder create suspense and horror in the play which are the elements of Melo-drama.

Ans. It takes place inside a bus station along a deserted highway somewhere in the mid west.

Ans. The sound of heavy rain and large bursts of thunder can be heard outside.

Ans. The stage is empty when the curtain rises.

Ans. He is a pleasant looking man of thirty-five.

Ans. He picks up a discarded newspaper and goes through it casually.

Ans. The storm has made the bus slowed down.

Ans. She thought that she could get the bus when it came and then go back for the car later.

Ans. The girl became frightened that the man had seen her while dragging the body out of the car. She started running to save herself.

Ans. He suggests that she should contact the police immediately.

Q. 18.  What type of questions could the police ask her?

Ans. They could probably ask her about the hat or dress of the man. They could also ask the general appearance of the man.

Q. 19. Why does the man ask her to go into women's room?

Ans. He asks her to go into the women's room to dry her eyes and fix herself up.

Q. 20. Why does the Second  Man rattle the door?

Ans. He rattles the door because he wants to get in. There is a storm outside.

Q. 21. What does the Second Man ask the first man?

Ans. He asks him why he had locked the door. There was no reason for it as he was not the owner of that place.

Q. 22. What did the Second Man doubt about after coming in?

Ans. The Second Man doubted about the presence of somebody else inside.
