KINDS of VERB

i. Transitive Verb:-

The verb which shows that the action passes from the subject to the object is called transitive verb, such ,as,

·        He reads a book.

·        I am drinking milk.

·        She bought a pen.

ii. Intransitive Verb:-

The verb which shows that the action stops with the subject or does not go beyond the subject is called intransitive verb, such as,

·        He sleeps.

·        The horse runs.

·        The sun sets in the vest.

iii. Regular Verb:-

 The verb of which 2nd and 3rd forms are made by adding ''d or ed'' is called regular verb, such as,

1st Form            2nd Form        3rd Form

·        Abuse                Abused              Abused

·        Admit                Admitted            Admitted

·        Boil                   Boiled                Boiled

·        Arrive               Arrived               Arrived

iv. Irregular Verb:-

The verb of which 2nd and 3rd forms are made without any rule and regulation is called irregular verb, such as,

          1st Form            2nd Form         3rd Form

·        Arise                 Arose                Arisen

·        Begin                Began               Begun

·        Come               Came               Come

·        Draw                Drew                Drawn

 

v. Auxiliary or Helping Verb:-

The verb which is used to help another verb is called an auxiliary or helping verb, such as, is, am, are, was, were, have, had, can, could, should, may, might etc.

·        They are playing hockey.

·        She has written a novel.

·        He is reading a good book.

vi. Licking Verb:-

The verb which creates a link between the noun and pronoun is used to help another verb is called linking  verb, such as, is, am, are, was, were, have, had, can, could, should, may, might etc.

·        They are good players.

·        She has a very good novel.

·        He is a brilliant student.

vii. Modal Verb:-

The verb which combines another verb to make compound verb is called modal verb, such as, will, shall, can, could, may, might, would, should, must, ought to, used to.
