KINDS Of LETTER
There are two kinds of English alphabets (26 letters).
Vowels:- a, e, i, o, u.
Consonants:-
Instead of 5 vowels there are 21 consonants.
b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z.
Difference between a vowel and consonant
A vowel can be sounded by itself, while consonants cannot be sounded without
the help of a vowel.
Word
A group of letters that gives a meaning and
clear sound is called a word,
such as, coat, bag, good, book.
Syllables
A syllable
is a part of a word that can be sounded at once as doer has two syllables ''Do-er'' and beautiful has three
Syllables, ''beau-ti-ful''
Sentence
A group
of words which gives (makes) complete sense is called a sentence, such as,
i. He has a good memory.
ii. Open the window.
iii. The boy stood on the burning deck.
Phrase
A group of words, which gives sense, but not
complete sense, is
called a Phrase, such as.
i. Hearing
the noise, he woke up.
ii. The boy stood on the burning deck.
iii. They are playing hockey in the ground.
Clause
A group
of words which forms a sentence, containing a Subject and a Predicate, is
called a Clause, such as.
Subject and Predicate
1.
The part
which names the person or thing, we are talking about is called the Subject
of the sentence.
2.
The part
which tells about the subject is called the Predicate; such as,
i. The earth
revolves round the sun.
ii. The
early bird catches the worm.
iii. Bad habits
grow unconsciously.
(Subjects are underlined/ Predicates are not.)
