The Hare and the Tortoise

Once, a hare and a tortoise lived in a jungle. They were fast friends and grew in the

company of each other. Since his childhood, the hare was proud of his fast speed. The hare often

teased the tortoise for his slow speed. One day, the tortoise challenged him to run a race. As, it is wisely said,

"A journey of a thousand miles

begins with a single step"

Startled by the claim, the hare accepted the challenge. They fixed a tree at the foot of a distant the hill as the winning point. As, the race started, the hare bounced away with flying speed. In no time, he disappeared in the distance. After he had covered half of the distance, he caught sight of a cool shady tree.

I've won the race. Where'd you be

If you'd carry a house like me?

Suddenly, the hare thought to take rest under the shady tree. Thinking this, he lay down under the shady tree and fell asleep. The tortoise, though extremely fatigued, continued to go onward with steady pace. As, it is wisely said,

"Success is for those who sleep

after the completion of their work."

Soon, he passed by the sleeping hare and went on his way. At last, he reached the winning post. When the hare woke up, the sun was kissing the horizon. Then, he started to run as fast as he could but no avail. He reached the winning point but was enormously ashamed to find the tortoise there. As, it is wisely said,

“Slow progress is better

than no progress.”

After this humiliation, the hare decided never to mock anyone in future.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

The Hare and the Tortoise

"Slow and steady wins the race" is a very famous proverb. It means, our little and regular acts are much better than irregular acts done by us. Regularity, punctuality and determination dominate the world. Whereas, the work that is done by fits and starts cannot produce the desired result. The following story illustrates the truth of the above statement. As, it is wisely said,

“Slow progress is better

than no progress.”

Once, a hare and a tortoise lived in a jungle. They were fast friends and grew in the

company of each other. Since his childhood, the hare was proud of his fast speed. The hare often

teased the tortoise for his short feet and sluggish act. One day, the tortoise got annoyed at his constant mockery. "I bet I'll beat you in a race" The tortoise said, "To yonder place." As, it is wisely said,

"A journey of a thousand miles

begins with a single step"

Startled by the claim, the hare accepted the challenge. They fixed a tree at the foot of a distant the hill as the winning point. The race commenced and the hare bounced away with flying speed. In no time, he disappeared in the distance. After he had covered half of the distance, he caught sight of a cool shady tree.

I've won the race. Where'd you be

If you'd carry a house like me?

Suddenly, the hare thought in his mind, why he should not have a rest for some time. He was sure that the tortoise would be legging far behind. Thinking this, he lay down under the shady

tree. The tender strokes of cool breeze rocked his tired body in the velvety cradle of meadow grass. Soon, he was snorting. The tortoise, though extremely fatigued, continued to go onward with steady pace. As, it is wisely said,

"Success is for those who sleep

after the completion of their work."

He reached the place where the hare was enjoying profoundly and he was in sound sleep. He quietly passed by the sleeping hare and went his way with new fervour. Ultimately, his perseverance brought him the sweet fruit of victory. When the hare woke up, the sun was kissing the horizon. Embarrassed by the idea of losing race, he ran as fast as he could but no avail. He reached the winning point but was enormously ashamed to find the tortoise there.

'Didn't, he cried, 'I tell you true'

What's the use of speed to you?

After this humiliation, the hare decided never to mock anyone in future.
