Flattery Often Succeeds
The Fox and the Crow
Once upon a time, a hungry fox was wandering in a jungle in search of food. He could not find food anywhere At last, he saw a crow sitting in a tree. It had a piece of cheese in its beak. His mouth began to water. He wished' to eat it himself.
The fox thought of a clever plan to
fulfill his desire. He sat under the tree and began to praise the crow. He
said, “What pretty bird the crow is, its beautiful feathers shine in the
sun”. Its songs are very sweet and charming. Its voice must be as sweet as that
of a nightingale.
The soft words and flattery of the
fox greatly pleased the crow. It was overjoyed. With endless pride, it began to
sing. But the moment, it opened its beak, the piece of cheese fell down. The
cunning fox picked it up and said, Thank you, Mr. Crow. The cheese is very
tasty indeed. But your voice is not as sweet as I expect it to be.
