Blessing in Disguise
Once,
a merchant was returning after a successful trade journey. He had a large sum
of money with him. He had a long way to go. It was getting dark. He had not
gone far when he was caught in a rain-storm. He stopped under the tree and
waited for the rain to stop. He cursed the rain which had delayed him.
“A blessing in disguise seems unfortunate at first.”
After
sometimes, the rain stopped. He heaved a sigh of relief. After some time, he
found his
way blocked by a fallen tree.
As he approached it, a robber appeared from behind a nearby tree. He had a gun
and ordered the merchant to hand his horse and money over to him. The merchant
did not want to lose his horse and money. As, it is wisely said,
“Money is honey, it’s my little sunny.
A rich man’s
joke is always funny.”
He
hit upon a plan. He jumped down and before the robber could move his finger,
held
him by the throat. The robber
sent him flying in the air with a powerful blow. He took aim and pulled the
trigger again and again but nothing happened. The gun powder had become damp
due to the rain. The robber cursed the rain and took to his heels. The merchant
took sigh of relief and thanked God. Now, the merchant realized that the rain
had been a blessing in disguise to him.
“Hard times are sometimes blessings in disguise.”

Blessing in Disguise
Man
is tragically limited in his understanding of men and matters. He usually fails
to understand the divine wisdom. He often gets disappointed and complains of
his misfortune. Sometimes, an apparent
misery may pave the way for some future happiness and prosperity.
As,
it is wisely said,
“What seems to us as bitter trials,
are often blessings in disguise.”
There
is a well-known fable to illustrate the truth of this maxim. Once, a merchant
was returning after a successful trade journey. He had a large sum of money
with him. He had a long way to go. It was getting dark. He spurred his horse to
a gallop. He had not gone far when he was caught in a rain-storm. He stopped
under the tree and waited for the rain to relent. He cursed the rain which had
delayed him.
“A blessing in disguise seems
unfortunate at first.”
After
sometimes, the rain stopped. He heaved a sigh of relief. A little farther, he
found his
way blocked by a fallen tree.
As he approached it, a robber/bandit appeared from behind a nearby tree. He,
with a gun in his hands, ordered the merchant to hand his horse and money over
to him. The merchant did not want to lose his horse and hard earned money. As,
it is wisely said,
“Money is honey, it’s my little sunny.
A rich man’s
joke is always funny.”
He
hit upon a plan. He jumped down and before the robber/rogue could move his
finger, held him by the throat. The robber/bandit sent him flying in the air
with a powerful blow. He took aim and pulled the trigger again and again but
nothing happened. The gun powder had become damp due to the rain. The robber/bandit
cursed the rain and took to his heels. The merchant took sigh of relief and
thanked God. Now, the merchant realized that the rain had been a blessing in
disguise to him.
“Hard times are sometimes blessings
in disguise.”
