Stopping by Woods on Snowy Evening
This is one of the most read and loved poems of a
famous poet “Robert Frost” which was
published in his collection called “New Hampshire”. Robert Frost is a well known
poet.
In this beautiful poem,
the poet has depicted the scene of him or the speaker stopping by the dark and
thick forest which is very beautiful and attractive. The
poet was inspired by a charming forest, when he was returning home after an
unsuccessful trip to the market. As, it is wisely said,
“I believe that there is s subtle magnetism
in nature, which
if we unconsciously yield to it, will
direct us right.”
Realizing that he did not have enough to buy
Christmas presents for his children, Frost was overwhelmed with depression and
stopped his sleigh
to watch the snow falling in the woods, which has made him stop there. As, it
is rightly said,
“A thing of beauty is joy
forever.”
At first, he worries
that the owner of the property will be upset by his presence, but then he
remembers that the owner lives in town and he is free to enjoy the beauty of
the falling snow. The sleigh horse is confused by his master’s behaviour
stopping far away from any farmhouse without any particular reason. As, it is
wisely said,
“Between the woods and
frozen lake
The darkest evening of
the year”
The poet in the next stanza admires the
flawless beauty of the woods. In the end, he realizes that he has other duties
too. He has to fulfill his promises and realizing that he comes out of fantasy
and faces reality. As Walt
Disney has rightly said,
“I
always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough
to know that life is a complex matter”.
After sometimes, the sleigh horse gives his bells a shake confirming that
there might be some mistake, and Frost
was cheered enough to continue home.
Truly, this poem has made
us realize our promises and purpose of coming to this world. His work will
enlighten readers for many years to come. He is a legend and his poetry will
always stay alive. As,
it is wisely said,
“The poetry of the earth is never dead.”
