Three Days to See

English Paragraph No 1

    Sometimes, I have thought that it would be an excellent rule to live each day as if we should die tomorrow. Such an attitude would emphasize sharply the values of life. We should live each day with gentleness, vigour, and a keenness of appreciation which is often lost when time stretches before us in the constant panorama of more days and months and years to come. There are those, of course, who would adopt the epicurean motto of "eat, drink, and be merry" but most people would be chastened by the certainty of impending death.

Urdu Translation

         بعض اوقات،   میں نے سو چا ہے  کہ یہ  ہر دن  گزارنے کا  بہترین اصول ہو گا کہ ہم نے کل مر جانا ہے ۔  ایسارویہ زندگی کی اقدار پر  بہت زیادہ  زور دے گا۔ہمیں ہر دن شرافت،  طاقت  اور  قدردانی کی گرم جوشی کے ساتھ  گزارنا  چاہیے،   جو اکثر کھو جاتا ہے، جب وقت  ہمارے سامنے مزید آنے والے دنوں، مہینوں اور سالوں کے  مستقل نظارے کی صورت میں پھیل جاتا ہے۔ بلاشُبہ،  وہ لوگ  جو خوش خوراکی کے اس اصول کو اپنائیں گے ، "کھاؤ ،      پیو اور خوش رہو"۔  لیکن بہت سے  لوگ سرپر منڈلاتی ہوئی یقینی  موت  کی  وجہ سے پچھتائیں گے۔

English Paragraph No 2

      In stories, the doomed hero is usually saved at the last minute by some stroke of fortune, but almost always his sense of values is changed. He becomes more appreciative of the meaning of life and its permanent spiritual values. It has often been noted that those who live, or have lived, in the shadow of death bring a mellow sweetness to everything they do.

Urdu Translation

        کہانیوں میں، مقدر کا مارا  ہیرو  عام طور پر قسمت کے ایک جھٹکے سے آخری لمحات  میں بچا لیا  جاتاہے ۔ لیکن اس کی ا قدار کا شعور تقریبا  ہمیشہ کے لئے بدل جاتا ہے۔  وہ زندگی کےمقصد  اوراس کی مستقل  روحانی ا قدار کا پہلے سے بھی زیادہ قدر دان بن جاتا ہے ۔ یہ اکثر  دیکھا گیاہے کہ وہ  جولوگ موت کے سائے  میں رہتے ہیں یا  رہ چکے ہیں،  وہ ہر کام جو وہ کرتے ہیں، اس میں شیریں مٹھاس لے آتے ہیں۔

English Paragraph No 3

       Perhaps I can best illustrate by imagining what I should most like to see if I was given the use of my eyes, say for just three days.

Urdu Translation

        شاید  کہ میں تصور کرتے ہوئے بہترین انداز میں بیان کر سکتی ہوں،  اگر مجھے صرف تین دن کے لیے  دیکھنے کے لئے آنکھیں دی جائیں  تو  میں  سب سے زیادہ دیکھنا چاہوں گی۔

English Paragraph No 4

      On the first day, I should want to see the people whose kindness, gentleness and companionship have made my life worth living.

Urdu Translation

         پہلے دن میں ان لوگوں کو دیکھنا چاہوں گی جن کی مہربانی، شرافت اور دوستی  نے  میری زندگی کو رہنے  کے قابل بنادیا ہے۔ 

English Paragraph No 5

    The next day -- the second day of sight -- I should arise with the dawn and see the thrilling miracle by which night is transformed into day. I should behold with awe the magnificent panorama of life with which the sun awakens the sleeping earth.

Urdu Translation

      اگلے  دن ، میری بصارت کے دوسرے دن  ، میں صبح سویرے بیدار ہونا اور   اُس  سنسنی خیز معجزے کو  دیکھنا چاہوں  گی، جس کے ذریعے  رات  دن میں  تبدیل ہوتی ہے ۔ میں حیرت سے زندگی کے اس  شاندار نظارے کو دیکھنا چاہوں گی، جس  کے ذریعے  سورج سوئی  زمین کو جگاتاہے۔

English Paragraph No 6

          This day, I should devote to a hasty glimpse of the world, past and present. I should want to see the pageant of man’s progress, the kaleidoscopic of the ages. How can so much be compressed into one day. Through the museums, of course.

Urdu Translation

       اس دن کو  میں  دنیا کے  ماضی اور حال  کی  ایک تیز جھلک دیکھنے کے لئے وقف کرنا چاہوں گی۔  میں ادوار کی رنگینیوں میں ،  انسان کی ترقی کے اس تماشے کو دیکھنا چاہوں گی۔ اتنا سب کچھ ایک دن میں کیسےسمویا جا سکتاہے؟      بلاشبہ،   عجائب گھر وں کے ذریعے سے ہی یہ  ممکن ہوگا۔

English Paragraph No 7

        The following morning, I should greet the dawn, anxious to discover, new delights, for I am sure that, for those who have eyes which really see, the dawn of each day must be perfectly new revelation of beauty. This according to the terms of my miracle is to be my third and last day of sight.

Urdu Translation

     اگلی صبح،  میں نئی خوشیاں  دریافت کرنے کی بے چینی  کے ساتھ صبح سویرے بیدار ہونا  چاہوں گی ۔ چونکہ مجھے یقین ہے،   وہ جو آنکھیں رکھتے، جو یقینا  دیکھتی ہیں، وہ   ہر روز  خوبصورتی کے نئے ظہور کو بہترین انداز میں  دیکھتے ہوں گے۔    یہ میرے معجزے کی  اصطلاح  کے مطابق ، میری بصارت کاتیسرا  اور آخری دن ہوگا۔

English Paragraph No 8

         I shall have no time to waste in regret for longing; there is so much to see. The first day I devoted to my friends, animate and inanimate. The second revealed to me the history of man and nature. Today I shall spend in the workaday world of the present, amid the haunts of men going about the business of life. And where can one find so many activities and conditions of men as in New York? So the city becomes my destination.

Urdu Translation

        میرے پاس  خواہشا ت پر  پچھتا نے کے لئے وقت نہیں ہوگا۔ یہاں پر دیکھنے  کے لیے بہت کچھ ہے ۔  پہلا دن،  میں نے اپنے   جان دار اور بےجا ن دوستوں  کے لیے وقف کیا ۔ دوسرے دن  نے مجھ پر انسان اور قدرت کی تاریخ کو ظاہر کیا۔   آج  کا  دن ،  میں موجودہ  دنیا کے انسان کی اپنی زندگی کے کاروبار  میں مصروفیت کے دوران  گزارنا  چاہوں گی۔  کوئی شخص نیو یارک کے علاوہ انسانوں کی اتنی زیادہ  سرگرمیاں اور حالات کہا ں پا سکتا ہے؟  اس لئے،   یہ شہر میری منزل مقصود بن  جائے گا۔

English Paragraph No 9

         Now and then I have tested my seeing friends to discover what they see. Recently, I was visited by a very good friend who had just returned from a long walk in the woods, I asked her what she had observed. "Nothing in particular," she replied. I might have been incredulous, had I not been accustomed to such responses, for long ago I became convinced that the seeing see little.

Urdu Translation

        کبھی کبھار ،میں نے اپنی دیکھنے  والی دوستوں  کو آزمایا ہے،  یہ دریافت کرنے کے لیے  کہ وہ کیا دیکھتی ہیں؟    حال ہی میں، مجھ سے  میری ایک بہت اچھی دوست   ملنے آئی ،   جو جنگل  کی ایک لمبی سیر  سے ابھی واپس آئی تھی ۔ میں نے اس سے پوچھا کہ اُس نے کیا مشاہدہ کیا؟ اس نے جواب دیا۔" کچھ خاص نہیں۔ "  میں  تھوڑی  بے یقینی سی ہو گئی۔  کیا مجھے ایسے جوابات کا عادی نہیں  ہو جانا  چاہئے؟  چونکہ  کافی عرصہ  پہلے ،  میں اس بات کی قائل ہو گئی تھی کہ جو  دیکھتے ہیں،  وہ کم  دیکھتے ہیں۔

English Paragraph No 10

      How was it possible, I asked myself, to walk for an hour in the woods and see nothing worthy of note? I who cannot see can find hundreds of things to interest me through mere touch. I feel the delicate symmetry of a leaf. I pass my lovingly hands about the smooth skin of a silver birch, or the rough shaggy bark of a pine. In spring, I touched the branches of trees hopefully in search of a bud, the first sign of awakening Nature after her winter's sleep. I feel the delightful, velvety texture of a flower, and discover its remarkable convolutions; and something of the miracle of Nature is revealed to me.

Occasionally, if I am fortunate, I place my hand gently on a small tree and feel the happy quiver of a bird in full song. I am delighted to have the cool waters of a brook rush through my open fingers. To me, a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug. To me the pageant of seasons is a thrilling and unending drama, the action of which streams through my finger tips.

Urdu Translation

       میں نے خود  سے پوچھا کہ یہ کیسے ممکن  تھا  کہ آپ ایک  گھنٹہ جنگل کی سیر کریں اور آپ کو  قابل دید کچھ بھی  دکھائی نہ دے۔ میں جو  دیکھ نہیں سکتی،  محض چھونے سے ہی اپنی دلچسپی کی  سینکڑوں چیزیں تلاش کر سکتی ہوں۔ میں ایک پتےکی نازک ساخت  کو  محسوس کرسکتی ہوں۔ میں سرمئی  درخت  کی نرم و  ملائم جلد یا  صنوبر کےدرخت کی ناہموار  اور کھردری  چھال پر سے  پیار سے اپنا ہاتھ گزارتی  ہوں۔  بہار میں،  نئی کونپلوں کو تلاش  کی امید کے ساتھ ،   میں درختوں کی شاخوں کو چھوتی ہوں،  جوموسم سرما کی نیند کے بعد  قدرت  کے بیدار ہونے کا پہلا اشارہ ہیں۔  میں ایک پھول کی خوشگوار  مخملی بناوٹ  محسوس کرتی ہوں اور اس کے واضح خم کو دریافت کرتی ہوں اور قدرت کا ایک حسین معجزہ مجھ پر ظاہر ہوتا ہے۔  

کبھی کبھار ، اگر میں خوش نصیب ہوں تو میں ایک چھوٹے درخت پر اپنا ہاتھ رکھتی ہوں اور خوشی سے گاتے ہوئے پرندے کی کپکی کو محسوس کرتی ہوں۔  میں اپنی کُھلی ہوئی  انگلیوں  سے ندی کے ٹھنڈے پانی کو  گزرتے ہوئے محسوس کر کے خوش ہوتی ہوں۔ میرے لیے ، صنوبر کی سوئیوں والا چمکدار  قالین یا  نرم و  ملائم  گھاس، قیمتی فارسی قالین  کی نسبت زیادہ اہمیت رکھتی ہے۔ میرےلیے، موسموں  کا تماشا  ایک سنسنی خیز او ر نہ ختم ہونے والا ڈرامہ ہے،  جس کا عمل  میری انگلیوں  کے پپوٹوں  سے گزرتا ہے۔

English Paragraph No 11

  If I were the president of a university, I should set a course called “How to Use Your Eyes”. The professor would try to show his pupils how they could add joy to their lives by really seeing what passes unnoticed before them. He would try to awaken their dormant and sluggish faculties. 

Urdu Translation

        اگر میں کسی یونیورسٹی کی  صدر ہوتی تو میں نصاب  میں یہ لازمی  قرار دیتی کہ  "آپ اپنی آنکھوں کو کیسے استعمال کرسکتے ہیں؟’’  پروفیسر کو اپنے شاگردوں کو یہ ظاہر کرنے کی کوشش کرنی چاہئے کہ وہ اپنی زندگیوں میں کیسے خوشیاں  لا  سکتے ہیں ،  حقیقت میں وہ دیکھتے ہوئے جو ان کے سامنے سے دکھائی  دئیے بغیر گزرجاتی ہیں۔ اُسے   ان کی سُست اور خوابیدہ صلاحتوں کو بیدار  کرنے  کی کوشش کرنی چاہئے۔
