Great Expectations

English Paragraph No 1

           The novel Great Expectations was written by Charles Dickens, a famous English author. The story took place in England in the nineteenth century. The main character is called Pip. We read about his life from childhood to manhood.

Urdu Translation

1۔           ناول     "عظیم توقعات"  ایک مشہور انگریز منصف "چارلس ڈکنز " نے لکھا  تھا۔   کہانی انیسویں صدی میں انگلینڈ میں  واقع ہوئی۔  اس کا مرکزی کردار پپ  کہلاتا ہے۔ ہم اس کے بچپن سے لے کر  جوانی تک کی زندگی کے بارے میں پڑھتے ہیں۔

English Paragraph No 2

The story begins when Pip was a lonely orphan. He was brought up by his sister. She was very strict and hard with him. His best friend was Joe, his sister's husband. He was kind and warm-hearted. He loved Pip as if he were his own son.

Urdu Translation

2۔           کہانی  شروع ہوتی ہے، جب پپ ایک تنہا یتیم تھا۔ اس کی بہن نے اس کی پرورش کی تھی۔اس کی بہن اس سے بہت سختی اور غصے  سے پیش آتی تھی۔  اس کا بہترین دوست،  اس کی بہن کا شوہر "جو"  تھا۔   وہ مہربان اور شفیق (پرجوش )تھا۔  وہ پپ سے اپنے بیٹے کی طرح پیار کرتاتھا۔

English Paragraph No 3

One day, Pip gave something to eat and drink to a prisoner who had escaped from prison. The man was recaptured by soldiers and taken away. But he never forgot Pip's kindness.

Urdu Translation

3۔           ایک دن پپ نے قید خانے  سے بھاگے ہوئے، ایک قیدی کو کھانے اور پینے کے لیے کچھ دیا۔  اس آدمی کو سپاہیوں نے  دوبارہ پکڑ لیا  اور اسے لے گئے۔ مگر وہ کبھی بھی پپ کی مہربانی کو نہ بھولا۔

English Paragraph No 4

Later, Pip was told that he would be given a lot of money. This was so that he could receive a good education in London and become a better person.

Urdu Translation

4۔          بعد میں پپ کو بتایا گیا کہ اُسے بہت سی دولت ملے گی۔ یہ اس لیے تھا  تاکہ وہ لندن میں اچھی تعلیم حاصل کرسکے اور ایک بہتر انسان بن سکے۔

English Paragraph No 5

In London, Pip studied hard. He received money regularly but he did not know where or who it came from. He lived in a flat with a young man who had little money but who worked for an insurance agent. They became friends. After some years, Pip was visited by the prisoner whom he had helped as a child. The man had been sent with other convicts to Australia and had become a very wealthy farmer there. In fact, he was the one that Pip's allowance came from. He wanted Pip to have the advantages of education and money although he was not a gentleman himself. Actually, he was still wanted by the police in England.

5۔           لندن میں پپ نے سخت محنت سے پڑھائی کی۔  وہ  باقاعدگی سے  رقم وصول کرتا رہا، مگر وہ نہیں جانتا تھا کہ وہ کہاں سے یا کس کی طرف سے آتی تھی؟   وہ ایک نوجوان کے ساتھ ایک فلیٹ میں رہتا تھا، جس کے پاس پیسے کم تھے، لیکن وہ   ایک   بیمہ کمپنی  کے نمائندے کے  لیے کام کرتا تھا۔ وہ دوست بن گئے۔ چند سال کے  بعد،  پپ سے  وہ قیدی ملنے آیا،  جس کی اُس نے اپنے بچپن میں مدد کی تھی۔  اس آدمی کو دوسرے  مجرموں کے ساتھ آسٹریلیا بھیج دیا گیا اوروہ وہاں  پربہت دولت مند کسان بن گیا۔ درحقیقت،  یہ وہی شخص تھا، جس کی طرف سے پپ کا وظیفہ آتا  تھا۔   وہ چاہتا تھا کہ پپ  تعلیم اور دولت  سے فائدہ اٹھائے۔   اگرچہ وہ خود ایک شریف آدمی نہ تھا۔ دراصل،  وہ ابھی بھی  انگلینڈ میں پولیس کو مطلوب تھا۔

English Paragraph No 6

Pip and his friend decided that London was too dangerous for the wanted man. They thought that Pip should take him abroad. As they attempted to board a ship, he was caught by the police. At his trial in the court, he was sentenced to death by the judge. Before he could be hanged, he died in prison. By law, all his money belonged to the government. So Pip had to find a job to support himself. He became a clerk in his friend's office. Years later, he became part owner of the insurance firm. So, he had a successful career as a result of his own efforts and not because of the fortune that he had been he promised.

6۔           پپ اور اس کے دوست نے فیصلہ کیا کہ لندن پولیس کو مطلوب شخص کے لیے بہت خطرناک تھا۔  انہوں نے سوچا کہ پپ کو اسے بیرون ملک لے جانا چاہئے۔  جب انہوں نے ایک بحری جہاز پر سوار ہونے کی کوشش کی تو پولیس نے اسے پکڑلیا۔  عدالت میں مقدمے کے دوران ،  جج نے اسے سزائے موت سنا دی۔  اس سے پہلے کہ اسے پھانسی دی جاتی وہ قید میں ہی مر گیا۔  قانوناً،  اس کی تما م دولت حکومت کی تھی۔  اس لیے پپ کو اپنی مدد   کے لیے ملازمت   تلاش کرنا پڑی۔  وہ اپنے دوست کے دفتر میں کلرک بن گیا۔  چند سال کے  بعد،    وہ ایک بیمہ کمپنی  کا حصہ دار بن گیا۔  اس طرح،  وہ اپنی کوششوں کے نتیجے میں  ایک  کامیاب  مستقبل  رکھتا تھا،   نہ کہ اس قسمت کی وجہ سے، جس کا  اس سے وعدہ کیا گیا تھا۔
